Holiday Traditions

This is what tradition means to us

Family traditions are what make the spirit of the holiday season come alive. At HCF, our traditions help us to celebrate the holidays with meaning and care. As we focus on what truly matters and get in the Christmas spirit of giving, we hope you do too!

A Tradition of Caring

Prior to Kerri Romes serving as the current President of HCF, her father, Jim Unverferth served as President. The tradition of Jim’s gift began many years ago when Jim told his team he didn’t need anything for Christmas, he had everything important to him. Jim’s corporate office team decided to raise money and use these funds to present to an HCF employee in need under his name. Jim Unverferth left a tremendous legacy, and to honor Jim’s memory and his dedication to his HCF family, we have continued the tradition of Jim’s Gift. There was nothing he loved more than helping others … especially when we were able to assist someone in the HCF family at Christmas time.

This year, we will present seven HCF employees in great need with a monetary gift that will help their stressful circumstances carry a little less weight this holiday season. Many of these hard working and dedicated team members are battling a terminal illness, suffering unimaginable loss, or recovering from a heartbreaking disaster, such as a house fire. Christmas is a time of joy, a time of tradition, a time to give hope to those less fortunate and in need. At HCF we are always so humbled to see our caring teams rally together to help their HCF Family!

Lending Hands Foundation

HCF has established a private non-profit 501( c ) 3 called Lending Hands Foundation. The organization’s purpose and objective in establishing the foundation is to have a way to help HCF employees in need during times of extreme emergency. It is a foundation funded by HCF employees, for HCF employees.

In 2021, HCF assisted 28 HCF employees. Since the creation of the Lending Hands Foundation in 2013, HCF has given a total amount of roughly $315,000 to HCF employees in need.

The Little Pigs

In 1991, a corporate office employee traveled to one of our skilled nursing home locations. On this trip, they spotted these adorable pig figurines and thought it would be the perfect gift for one of his colleagues at HCF. The look on the face of the gift recipient of “the little pigs” was priceless and is still laughed about today!

Each Christmas since 1991, the newest corporate office HCF team member is gifted the little pigs at the annual Christmas Party. They are asked to respect the tradition and protect the little pigs until next Christmas. Then, they too can enjoy watching a new co-worker’s reaction to “the best Christmas gift ever.”

With every holiday comes its own set of traditions and for every family a way of celebrating that is unique to them. We enjoyed sharing with you a few of our favorite traditions at HCF. We wish all of our friends and family a very

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
